BIOGRAPHY

Karlos Simon has been diving around five continents since 1988.

He is an underwater videographer, technical diving specialist, PADI Course Director and shark expert.

During his professional career he has certified more than 4,000 students and made more than 10,000 dives on more than 300 diving trips and expeditions that he has organized at the best diving sites around the world: Spain, Indonesia, the Maldives, Egypt, the Bahamas, Greenland, México, Costa Rica, Ecuador, South Africa, Mozambique…

PADI has awarded him on many occasions. In 1994 he was granted with the ‘Quality in Training’ recognition. In 2001, 2004, 2011 and 2012 he was awarded the ‘Excellence in Instructor Training’ certificate and since 2014 he has been awarded ‘Platinum Course Director’ consecutively.

Among many conferences, in 2013 and 2014 he made two conferences about sharks for the National Geographic in Madrid.

In 2014 he opened the underwater film festival in Valladolid with the conference ‘Tonic Immobility with Sharks’ and in 2017 he was asked to do a speech about sharks at the Madrid edition of TEDx.

He has written many articles about the ocean and sharks for many magazines in Spain such as Buceo XXI, Inmersión, Oxígeno and Buceadores, with a column in the latter entitled ‘My Life with Sharks’.

Among his audio-visual productions, highlights include his documentary film as director: ‘Cozumel, a paradise in the Mayan Caribbean’ which was awarded the silver dolphin at Cannes Festival, bronze in the San Sebastian Underwater Film Festival and gold at the Ohio, Oporto and Catalonia festivals.

His passion for sharks and his desire to demonstrate that they are not human killers led him to establish an international record in 2011, not yet beaten, in which he remained 12 hours underwater surrounded by tiger and lemon sharks. Since then he has been researching tonic immobility with tiger sharks.

At the end of October 2018 he will be on Spanish television with his new project, a series about wrecks off the Spanish coast.

At the end of January 2019 his book will be launched which talks all about his life and experiences among sharks.
